The Exchange Areas view displays the exchange areas associated with the yards. An exchange area is an exchange grid in the yard that contains lanes where containers are transferred to or from a truck.

Starting from N4 version 2.6, the Exchange Areas and Exchange Lanes for each exchange area are maintained in the Yard Model. You can use the Yard Model to create or update the exchange areas and exchange lanes in N4. Also, when you update the Yard Model and delete an existing exchange area, on applying the updated Yard Model to N4, the deleted exchange area becomes 'Obsolete' in N4.

For inter-facility transfers via a gate, you must use an exchange area to perform these transfers.

You can add, edit, or delete the associations between the exchange areas, exchange lanes and yards.

When you delete an exchange area, N4 does not delete the exchange area; instead, it marks it as obsolete. The Life Cycle State column displays whether an exchange area is Active or Obsolete. You can use Display Show All to display all the exchange areas. For more information, see Using the Display menu.

In addition, you can use the Actions menu to:

• Recover Obsolete: Recover deleted exchange areas.

• Purge: Purge exchange areas.

• Export SNX File: Export exchange areas.

• Load from Yard Model (on page 1): Update exchange areas from the Yard Model.

N4 allows both admin and non-admin users who have Yard Model and Yard Editor privileges to update the exchange lane information.

Once you have loaded the exchange areas in N4, you can use the Gate-Exchange Area (on page 1) form to associate the gates with exchange areas. Also, you can use the Exchange Lane (on page 1) form to add or edit the exchange lanes associated to an exchange area. This enables N4 to pick/assign a lane in the exchange area specified by XPS when processing a gate transaction.

1. In the list view, select the record(s) that you want to edit or delete.

2. Do one of the following:

• Click to edit a selected record.

• Click to delete the selected record(s).
